Symbian has announced: #1.) A new platform for GPRS smartphones (using 2.5G networks, shipping Q2'2001) that will include support for: WAP v1.2, Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) framework, and Personal Java Application Environment 1.1; and #2.) A new strategic alliance between Aether Systems, fusionOne, Pumatech, and Starfish Software to offer mobile devices a wide-range of seamless connectivity solutions.

InfoWorld has coverage of the release of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 for Windows CE v1.1.

DeLorme has announced plans to offer a WAP module for their Eartha Enterprise map server that will enable customized mobile mapping data solutions to a wide range of devices.
