The new handhelds will have two forms of expansion: the SD (Secure Digital) slot for both memory and peripheral expansion, and the new USB slot can also support snap on cradles that hook onto the back of the unit. Both Palm and Handspring are being sued by NCR, which claims that Palm OS devices use unauthorized NCR patented designs and concepts. [ PC World]

CNET is reporting there is a software glitch with Compaq Computer's iPaq H3600 series ROM v1.69 upgrade that won't recognize CompactFlash 56-Kbps modem cards.

FileMaker is reporting that they have shipped over 30,000 copies of FileMaker Mobile Companion for Palm OS since it was introduced on 11Dec00 (3 months ago). This product makes it possible to transfer and synchronized data bi-directionally between handhelds and FileMaker Pro 5 databases for Windows/Macintosh.

Handspring has announced new availability of Visor handheld devices and Springboard expansion modules for the Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji marketplaces. Part of this announcement included news that Handspring will be working with Vodafone to provide wireless voice and data solutions to new owners of Handspring products.

DDH Software has announced HanDBase for Pocket PC (US$25 relational database) that will enable Pocket PC and Palm handhelds to "beam database information" between each other. The package also comes with a desktop application that can export files in the following formats: Excel, Word, CSV, HTML, and XML.

Laridian the developer of MyBible has announced a new tool for Palm OS devices called PrayerPartner (US$8) that enables users to keep track of people that they are praying for.
