mobileID has released a WAP browser for Palm OS that supports HandSpring, Palm, IBM, Symbol, and TRG devices. Registration is required.

Wired has a new article by Michelle Finley entitled "Are PDAs Next for Viruses? -- The day when malignant worms and viruses strike computing units other than PCs looms. After all, to virus writers and hackers, it's just another challenge."

Certicom has announced that Systor AG (a financial market information technology contractor) is using Certicom's encryption technology -- elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) & Secure Mobile Solution (SEMOS) -- to provide "securities-compliant mobile computing solutions for European financial institutions." The first platform being supported is Microsoft's PocketPC.

Puma Technology has announced that they will now officially begin to do business as PUMATECH, but the legally change won't happen until stockholders approve in December 2000. PUMATECH also announced that with their recent purchases of ProxiNet and NetMind Technologies that they are now positioned to offer a host of Web content and ecommerce solutions to mobile marketplaces.

MobileVillage Staffing specializes in "recruiting, placing, and assisting contract and regular professionals in mobile computing related worldwide positions."

Toshiba and SanDisk have signed a new agreement to create a semiconductor company called "FlashVision LLC" that will produce advanced "NAND flash memory" in the fabrication space at Dominion Semiconductor in Manassas, VA. This joint venture will cost approximately US$700 million, employ 600 more employees, and achieve volume mass production by late 2001.
