Handspring has announced that they have filed for an initial public offering (IPO) worth US$300 million. In documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Handspring has been selling about 30,000 Visor handhelds a month with revenues of just under US$16 million for the last six months ending in Jan00. Psion has announced that they have licensed Opera Software's HTML browser (version 3.6) for EPOC based devices. Some key features: support for 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS).

The author Jim Cathart of the book "The Acorn Principle" has published a version for Palm OS devices that is available online via PeanutPress .

Nettech Systems has announced a new mobile middleware solution called "Smart IP v2.01" that supports the following wireless data networks: CDMA, GSM, PDC, and PHS for Windows 95/98/NT/CE operating systems. In recent tests, Nettech found that data sent over a wireless 32-Kbps connections was 13 times faster for files larger than 1-MB than traditional methods.

Macromedia has announced a new "developer" release of their latest software developer kit that includes beta versions of Flash v5.0 that will reportedly support a host of architectures including handheld devices.
