PC Week is reporting that Integrated Systems Inc. (ISI), Mitsubishi and Sun have announced a new Java based reference platform (aka "WebPDA") for the creation of future wireless handheld devices. The platform uses ISI's pSOSystem (embedded operating system), Mitsubishi's M32R/D processor, and Sun's pJava. Other players in the is initiative include: National Semiconductor, Espial, PointBase, and ANT Ltd.
Kenneth Morse has announced that Ilium Software has released ListPro 2.0 for Windows CE devices. The new version supports: hierarchical (multilevel) lists; user defined columns; new column types (including date and yes/no); direct editing of list items; a global find option; as well as infrared transfer of individual lists between Windows CE devices.
C Technologies AB has announced the "Handheld Data Collector" that they are calling "C-Pen 200." It is a marker-sized scanner that you can use to grab data from a printed page; the unit immediately translates it into text which can later be uploaded to a computer.
Advanced Recognition Technologies (ART) has announced a new version of their advanced handwriting recognition solution called "ARTrecognition" for Windows CE. Past versions of ARTrecognition have been awarded "1998 PC Magazine Golden Gavel and 1999 Direct CE Award winner." [SOURCE: Business Wire]
Hewlett-Packard has announced integration of their JetSend (device-to-device) communication technology into their new HP PhotoSmart C500 digital camera and HP PhotoSmart P1100/P1000 printers. This makes it possible to "print" without the need of cables, a PC, or specific printer drivers.
