The Red Herring magazine published on June 1999 has listed "Symbian" as their "top best" private company superstar. The award notes that Symbian licensees control "70%" of the global mobile phone market. Also included in the list was Unwired Planet which is the primary sponsor of the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) that has over "90%" of all global handset manufacturers onboard.

Wired notes in an article entitled "PRESCRIBING BY PALM" that a "Web-based network of doctors" is giving away 10,000 Palm devices to "subscribers" so that doctors can access "medical records" and "issue prescriptions" digitally while still being mobile.

IBM Japan has announced that they are now shipping WorkPad versions of the 3Com Palm V and Palm IIIx devices in Japan. 3Com has also recently announced the availability of the Palm IIIx in Malaysia.

Symantec has announced the release of WinFax for Palm-size Windows CE devices called "Mobile WinFax."

Nintendo has announced at E3 a new deal with IBM that is reportedly worth at least US$1 billion that will give IBM the "privilege" of providing Nintendo with a "customized" 400 MHz PowerPC processor for Nintendo's next generation game machine expected in late 2000. This new game machine will also use DVD technology from Matsushita Electric Industrial, and a "high-speed 3D graphics chip from ArtX."

Mark would like Newton owners who don't have an Ethernet card or port, but would still like to use their Newton on a network, to know that Apple has posted their Mac OS based "LocalTalk Bridge" to their Internet site.
