Fujitsu Personal Systems has recently announced not only the "Point 1600 pen computer" but also the new "Stylistic 2300" (US$4485). This device will run Windows 98 or NT using a 233MHz Pentium MMX processor. It also comes with a ruggedized 4.1GB Ultra ATA hard drive, pen interface, 8.4-inch SVGA display (with support for Zoomed Video), 96MB (max) of SDRAM, a built-in 56K V.90 modem, support for two Type II PC Cards (or one Type III), and a host of external ports (IrDA, serial, monitor, parallel, sound, keyboard/mouse, floppy, USB, and a port replicator).

Palm Computing has announced the "Palm Training Alliance--a program that provides world-class training solutions for corporations implementing Palm Computing platform solutions at the enterprise level." This program will not only incorporate detailed technical support from 3Com, but also include other PalmPilot partners like IBM, Qualcomm, and Symbol Technologies.

Sean Dugan has a product review of the new Dauphin Orasis pen-based computer on page 97 of the InfoWorld published on 11Jan99. The article is entitled "Orasis has strong niche appeal" and Sean gives the unit good marks for being a "powerful PC in a compact package" but also notes the unit is "loud, heavy, and has a short battery life."

Pyram-ID Software has released a DOS emulator for Windows CE called "XT-CE v2.1a" (US$50, demo available on website). While the emulation (IBM XT) can be slow by desktop standards, the ability to run the large number of functional DOS programs can outweigh this limitation. It should also be noted that this package doesn't come with MS-DOS (you have to own a copy already) or you can use Caldera's DR-DOS.

Major Newton event--The Stanford Newton Users Group (SNUG) will be celebrating their Fifth Anniversary Tuesday evening, 26Jan99, at Printers Ink Bookstore Cafe (310 California Ave, Palo Alto, California) beginning at 7pm. The Guest of Honor will be Sandy Benett, former head of Newton, Inc., and of Apple's Newton division. The meeting will also feature a raffle of Newton memorabilia. For more information go here.
