Paula Rooney at Computer Reseller News covers the news on 13Aug99 that "Microsoft Will Ship Upgraded Windows CE Today" via TechWeb: www.techweb.com/wire/story/TWB19990813S0011. Expect Windows CE v2.12 to be sent to OEM partners very soon (if not already), and upgrade announcements from hardware vendors to follow soon after. The next big release of Windows CE -- codenamed "Cedar" -- is expected in Q1'2000, and should be called Windows CE v3.0.

3Com's Palm Computing has been awarded a "preliminary injunction" against Olivetti Office USA from a U.S. District Court in Northern California that restricts Olivetti from distributing, selling, importing, and exporting their Royal daVinci family of palm-size PDA products. Fellowes has announced plans to market and sell through their worldwide distribution channels Concept Kitchen's complete line of handheld accessory products under a co-branding agreement.

The San Diego Union-Tribune's ComputerLink for 17Aug99 has a front-page cover story entitled "A World At Your FingerTips - Palm-sized computing lets you keep track of the matters at hand" written by Martin Moylan at Knight Ridder News Service. There are also two companion articles both by Henry Norr at the San Francisco Chronicle that examine alternatives to Palm OS devices. Moylan's article includes a couple of interesting quotes from Day Runner's Chief Operating Officer (COO) Donnie Bottinelli that state that "paper organizer sales for Day Runner" have not been diminishing while the demand for PDAs has been rising.

CIC has announced a new three package bundle that gives a Palm OS device user CIC's RecoEcho (write on the whole screen), WordComplete (text entry completion tool), and QuickNotes (capture notes in digital ink) for only US$40.
