Atelier and Vadem's ParaGraph have teamed together to develop and market "CalliGrapher [handwriting recognition technology] for the Psion Series 5 devices" and ultimately all Symbian EPOC32 devices.

Martyn Williams at Newsbytes reports on 28Sep98 that Matsushita Electrical Industrial has two new sub-notebook PCs in the work: the CF-C33J8C will come integrated with a digital camera (ships in Japan on 23Oct98), and the CF-C33J8K will come with a cellular interface for wireless connectivity (ships in Japan on 07Nov98).

Day-Timers has announced a new software product line called "Day-Timer Organizer 2000" for Windows 95/98/NT desktop and laptop systems that will integrate with Windows CE devices. Pricing is as follows: Day-Timer Organizer 2000 at US$60, Day-Timer Organizer 2000 Deluxe at US$80, and Day-Timer Organizer 2000 Network versions ranging from US$108 for the two-user form to US$2000 for the 50-user form.

Three-Five Systems has announced a "new major" production order for liquid crystal display (LCD) modules to be used in a digital GSM phones devices by an "unnamed" major US digital phone manufacturer. The LCDs will be built in Manila, Philippines and then shipped to Beijing, China to be integrated into phones.

DataLink Systems have announced a new "free to access service on the Internet" that they are calling "MessageX" that can send short message system (SMS) data structures to GSM/PCS/PCN mobile phones or pagers.

Simple Technology is now shipping 16MB SmartMedia cards (US$90) that can be used with standard Type II PC cards using Simple's SmartMedia PC Card adapter.

Quick on the recent strategic alliance news with Sybase and 3Com, Sybase has announced another strategic alliance with BellSouth Wireless and Research In Motion (RIM) to integrate wireless network access from BellSouth with RIM's Inter@ctive Pager 950, and Sybase's Adaptive Server Anywhere mobile database and UltraLite technology.

Andreas Briell reports that "EBB-mobile data systems" have just released a new "powerful Newton backup utility" that they are calling "MobileBackup v0.98b". This beta will expire on 04Oct98.
