Dauphin Technology is now shipping a new handheld mobile computer called the "Orasis" that uses either a 233-MHz or 266-MHz Pentium MMX CPU. Orasis devices can be customized with many different types of wireless connectivity, and even GPS receivers.

Malaysia's COMPUTIMES is publishing an "opinion" that IBM is acting "cautious" in "defining [a] strategy" for mobile computing in Asia-Pacific markets.

3Com has announced that they are now shipping a Spanish language versions of their "Palm III connected organizer" (SRP US$399). The Palm III already supports English, French, and German languages.

Pretec is now shipping second generation LAN and modem cards for Windows CE devices (both Palm PC and HPC). They now have a "Type I with Extender form factor" card called "CompactLAN" that include RJ45 or BNC connection to LANs, and "CompactModem" that supports 56Kbps. Both work on only 3.3 volts.

Corex Technologies Corporation has announced that they are now shipping an upgrade to their popular line of CardScan devices for scanning individual business cards called "CardScan Executive" (US$299).

JVC America has a new "pocket email device" that they will soon begin to market and sell in the United States called "HC-E100 PocketMail." The "wallet-size" device can also send and receive faxes.

Tegic Communications has announced plans to deliver a "Chinese character based solution using their T9 text input technology" by the end of 1998. Tegic is currently shipping solutions for Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish.

Miller Freeman has published their Sep98 issue of Windows CE Tech Journal that is geared to embedded marketplace developers. This publication is currently "freeware to qualified developers" and sponsored by Microsoft, Annasoft Systems, MIPS Technologies, Cyrix, Philips, Phoenix Technologies, and Toshiba (which all have very big ads).
