Steve Gold at Newsbytes reported on 09Sep98 that "Bell Labs [has] Developed [a] New Wireless Compression Technology" that they call "BLAST (Bell Labs Layered Space Time)" that may be able to boost capacity of specific types of wireless links by 10-20 times.
