The Embedded Systems Programming published for Oct98 has a major article entitled "Developing Applications with Windows CE 2.1" written by Jean Gareau and Jean Labrosse starting on page 46.
David Fedor reports the availability of a PalmPilot edition of the New International Version (NIV) version of the Bible. While this PalmPilot version is not as feature complete as the Newton version, there are plans for a more robust version in the future. The software license for NIV is US$20 via Kagi.
The LAN Times published for the last time on 26Oct98 has an interesting article on page 14. The article is by Louis Stone-Collonge and is entitled "CASE STUDY--A Wireless LAN Unfettered By Pigeons: After struggling to find the right product, a California city uses wireless links to save cost over high-priced WAN lines." The primary solution was to link City Hall with the District Attorney's office via RadioLAN's CampusLAN equipment instead of deploying a significantly more costly WAN from Pacific Bell.
Michael Tiernan notes that he noticed the following headline "Apple sued for ditching the Newton" published via MacCentral. The story was also covered by Reuters/Wired, The San Jose Mercury News (SJMN), and CNET.
Son Nguyen reports the creation of some new Newton Books that provide users to "IBM GlobalNetwork access phone numbers." You can check out the books (currently only MP2x00 savvy) via Kenneth Wong's NewtonMad.
