Symbol Technologies has announced receiving an order for an additional 25,000 mobile computer devices from a contract held by Lockheed Martin for the U.S. Postal Service. The contract's goal is to equip all U.S mail carriers with mobile devices for the tracking of specialized USPS delivery offerings. The initial order was 300,000 handhelds and 59,000 Ethernet cradles, and should be completed by the end of 1999.
E.W. Bridge has introduced a new "digital recorder and player" called the Pocket BiteMate. There are currently two models available: BiteMate 400 [4MB storage (20 minutes short play, 50 minutes long play), US$200] or BiteMate 800 [8MB storage (40 minutes short play, 100 minutes long play), US$300].
Aportis Technologies and On-Board Info Limited have announced the availability of "The Economist Diary Companion 1999's Worldwide Reference Data" package compiled from the publication The Economist in AportisDoc format. The software will be distributed online by On-Board for US$30 a copy.
Sierra Imaging is now offering for download purchase (US$50 vs. US$70 for CDROM) their Image Expert CE for Windows CE 2.0 devices.
PenRight! is reporting that its MobileBuilder v3.0 software development kit (SDK) for Windows CE is now available. In related news, PenRight! has also recently announced that its MobileBuilder SDK for Windows was recently used to build a mobile point-of-sale (POS) solution for United Airlines. This POS solution is called "World Duty Free Inflight", and it runs on 4P Mobile Data Processing's IDFS500 handheld terminals.
