Maggie Biggs has a in-depth review of the new Vadem Clio C-1000 and Windows CE 2.1 that starts on page 119 of the InfoWorld published for 09Nov98. In Biggs' opinion, "Windows CE is good for email and Internet access," but for "corporate applications the PalmPilot is a better solution." However, Biggs does have very nice things to say overall about Vadem Clio hardware, engineering, and design except that the touchscreen has some contrast and responsiveness issues.
Qualcomm and Microsoft have announced the name for their new wireless joint venture company--wirelessKnowledge--which will be based in San Diego, California. GoAmerica, and Research In Motion's Inter@ctive Pager 950 have announced either new partnership services with, or support for, wirelessKnowledge initiatives. Concept Kitchen has announced a new "PenCap Stylus" that lets handheld users "easily switch back and forth between writing on paper and writing on their PDA." The PenCap Stylus will fit on "ordinary pens" and come in packs of six. Expect the product in retail outlets and on the WWW by Q1'99. Pricing has yet to be determined.
Sybase and Symbian have announced plans to show off Sybase's SQL Anywhere & UltraLite deployment technology running on Symbian's EPOC Smartphones at Internet World Sweden '98 (Stockholm, Sweden, 10-12Nov98) and Comdex (Las Vegas, NV, 16-20Nov98).
Popular Science has awarded Iomega's new Clik! Mobile Drives with a "Best of What's New" Award. The article associated with the award noted that Clik! drives should be on the market by the end of Q4'98 (US$199 for internal, US$249 for externals, or US$300 for mobile).
