Psion
More news on the latest joint venture between Psion, Ericsson, and Nokia. Motorola is also planning on becoming part of the joint venture called "Symbian". The announced CEO for Symbian is Colly Myers, and the current ownership break down is 40% Psion, 30% Ericsson, and 30% Nokia, with Motorola's ownership still being negotiated. Symbian will be focused on building "mobile Wireless Information Devices" using Psion's EPOC architecture and open standards like "Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), Java, and Bluetooth." Geofox (http://www.geofox.com) has announced a new presentation tool called Colorshow (hardware and software) that makes it possible to create PowerPoint presentations on your desktop system and download them to your Psion EPOC savvy device to play them using an external screen or projector.
PalmPilot
O'Reilly has announced a new book entitled PalmPilot: The Ultimate Guide written by David Pogue. The book covers all the currently available PalmPilot devices, including IBM's WorkPad and the new Palm III. The book also ships with a CD-ROM full of software including a version of CodeWarrior Lite for PalmPilot. The book costs just under US$30 and the ISBN# is [1-56592-420-7]. Actioneer (http://www.actioneer.com) has a product called "Actioneer" that lets you input data into your PalmPilot using an "intelligent user interface" that can "interpret, organize, and automatically distribute" your data as you enter it in.

Dauphin Technology has a new handheld computer product in the works for release by mid-Jul98. The device recently passed Class A FCC testing standards.
Fujitsu has announced plans to offer Microsoft Windows 98 with "pen extensions" on their line of tablet PCs by the end of Jul98.
Steve soulfree@pacbell.net notes that there are at least two new "electronic book specific handheld devices" in the works. One is called RocketBook (http://www.nuvomedia.com/html/productindex.html), and the other is called SoftBook (http://www.softbook.com/).
