Wireless Today (15Jul98) reports that Checkpoint Systems has announced plans to equip more than 200 of their customer service engineers with Motorola Personal Messenger 100D wireless PC Card modems using American Mobile Satellite's Ardis network for connectivity while in the field servicing CheckPoint Point-Of-Sale (POS) equipment. The modems will be used with a "not yet announced" Windows CE device.

Flash Sheridan would like to remind readers that the Stanford Windows CE User Group meets at 7 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month -- the next meeting will be on 28Jul98. This will be a joint meeting with the Stanford Newton User Group, which meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. The meeting will feature a demo of the new Philips Nino Palm-Sized PC, and an examination of what WindowsCE shareware does and does not run on this new device. The meeting will be held at: Printer's Inc. Bookstore Cafe, 310 California Ave, Palo Alto, California.

Communications Today (15Jul98) notes that GoAmerica Communications has announced they will be purchasing a wireless data service called "ZAP-IT" from DTS Wireless.

HAMA, a large German retail supplier, has begun "packaging and selling" SanDisk branded Compact Flash (CF) memory cards in their stores in the following megabyte (-MB) capacities: 4, 8, 10, 15, 20, 24, 30, 40, and 48.

Fujitsu Personal Systems (FPS) has named Louis Panetta as president and CEO of the company. FPS has also recently announced an new mobile pen system called "the Point 510 RF" that has integrated radio communications.

United Kingdom's Psion has teamed with Palmtop BV to create a Psion Series 5 savvy financial application called "Psion Money" (UK Pounds 49.95) that will link with desktop personal financial packages like Quicken or Microsoft Money. Psion also has another new resource they are calling "Pocket Info" that provides users with "information listed under six popular headings: Business, Leisure, Sport, Travel, Reference, and Sounds."

Invox Technology has announced a new family of audio recording and playback solutions called "IVM1700 e.Speech family" that are ideal for incorporation into future handheld devices.

Telxon Corporation has reported that during their last financial quarter ending 30Jun98 their "after-tax earnings from operations rose 37% on a 10% increase in revenues" earning US$1.6 million or US$0.10 per share.

Doug Luckie notes that the Michigan State Palmtop Users Group's (MSPUG) Newton Special Interest Group (NSIG) will be meeting this Sunday - 26Jul98 @ noon - at The Silverscreen Cafe, 300 N. Clippert, Lansing, MI (Frandor Shopping Center). At this meeting, Avi Drissman will use a large screen TV and an "EZ2TV" Card to project the Newton onscreen and demo several of his applications including "61 Memory Fix" and "Avi's Backdrop."
