Secure Computing and Palm Computing have jointly announced the availability of SafeWord strong authentication for PalmPilot devices. This technology will be first used to allow enterprise solutions like Oracle, Remedy, and/or SAP to support remote access from PalmPilot devices. Pricing and exact availability was not available at publication time.

Vadem's ParaGraph has announced that a version of their natural handwriting recognition engine known as "CalliGrapher" has been ported to DataRover Mobile Systems' new handheld devices, and that this technology will be integrated and bundled by the end of Q1'99 into the MagicCap operating system distributed on DataRover devices.

GoAmerica Communications has created a seamless, fully integrated, under US$100 a month "Web-based customer management and tracking system based on Practical Sales Tools' UnwiredContact product" that will be bundled on Sharp Mobilon Pro PV-5000 Handheld PC Pro devices, and equipped for wireless access using the Sierra Wireless AirCard 300 for Windows CE. Another key service bundled with this setup will be MobileWord's TalkText (dictation service). Expect availability by the end of Jan99.

Telxon Corporation has announced that South African retailer Woolworths will be using Telxon's PTC-960SL wireless mobile computers for in-store wireless applications (2.4GHz direct sequence spread spectrum radio) in more than 140 stores across South Africa.
