The Information Week published 03Aug98 has two tidbits of interest: #1 On page 20 there is news from Intel that they indeed have plans for their recently acquired StrongArm processor from DEC. The processor will be marketed by Intel to power future Windows CE handhelds and smartphones. #2 Itronix Michael Zimmerman has posted a future Windows CE opinion piece in his online column called "Read Off the Cuff." The focus of the article is the "'missing link' between notebooks and PDAs -- Microsoft's 'Jupiter' handheld goes a long way for a spec, but it adds an unnecessary layer of confusion for buyers.".
Book Publishing Report notes the recent news that Peanut Press is working on an electronic bookstore for 3Com PalmPilot devices.
Jim Chung notes the availability of Microware's Java for OS-9 Start Kit for developers and other cutting edge engineers interested in building embedded Java solutions. The kit runs on a PC (Windows 95/NT) and connects to an MBX running Motorola's MPC821 or MPC860 processors.
Ted Kenney notes that MSDN has posted an interesting article focused on "10 tips for Windows CE programming."
BugNet has announced that Jerry Pournelle (long-time columnist of BYTE Magazine and science fiction writer) will be publishing his "Chaos Manor" column on BugNet starting in Sep98.
Scott Andress reports that his site "Digital Concepts," which highlights some of Scott's advanced palmtop device designs, now has some t-shirts available with some select palmtop renditions featured on the t-shirts.
Adam Tow at Foundation Systems brings us news that Apple's "last" production run of Newton MP2100's should be available by mid-Sep98 to those vertical market developers and system integrators who ordered 1000+ units in Mar98.
